New School Technology with an Old School Look

Updated: Sep 12, 2018

At first glance, you may think these are your classic marker lights. Beehives, bullseyes, turn signal markers, rear markers, even the bullet Peterbilt and Mack cab markers. You are correct! However, the difference between these lights and the classic favorites is simply the bulb. The classic lights had incandescent; these new ones are in LED. While these are just a few samples of what is out there, there is a trend where companies are re-manufacturing old-style marker lights of many different styles to take advantage of the benefits LED technology brings to the table.

Benefit #1: Efficient power consumption. The difference is astonishing. LED lights by design use less power to produce the same or more amount of light output. This means that less stress is being put on your truck overall. Not as much energy is being sapped along the lines to light the markers as before. An added bonus is that if you leave your truck lights on accidently, your battery won’t drain as fast.

Benefit #2: Potential longer lifespan. LED diodes don’t have that flimsy wire that glows in order to produce light. They have individual diodes that illuminate. This translates to a longer lifespan because we have a point of failure eliminated. With the longer lifespan, one can save money on buying replacement bulbs.

Benefit #3: As much or more light output. In most cases, instead of one bulb, multiple LED diodes illuminate. This allows more potential light output because there is more surface area lighting up. More diodes = more light output. This means that you have the potential to be spotted easier and from a further distance.

Benefit #4: Visual appeal. While this is more of a cosmetic benefit, sometimes lights are purchased purely for looks. LED lights are extremely versatile. Because of the compact size of the diode, it can be crammed into virtually any light under the sun. While we focused today on the classic designs, many other themes and patterns are available as well. We will go over that in another article.

We carry both incandescent and LED versions of classic marker lights to customize your truck any way you desire. Whether you want to replace on old-style light with an incandescent bulb or if you want to do a complete overhaul to LED, we have lots to choose from on our online store.
